GIRLS DIVISION

The girls division maintains a high standard of academic excellence aligned with imbuing the girls with a love for Torah and Mitzvos. The curricular objectives ensure that students acquire fluency in content and textual skills to become critical thinkers and independent learners. Baseline assessments were designed to gauge the alignment of skills with our core curriculum and formulate strategies to implement effective instruction to meet the needs of diversified learners.  A YBH graduate is  proficient in decoding the text and analyzing Rashi and Meforshim to understand P’shat. A comprehensive Yedios Kleliyos program gives the students an appreciation of the broadness of Torah learning and a wealth of knowledge. Proficiency of the Hebrew language is developed through written and oral expression. Our highly qualified and experienced morohs who are role models for the girls inspire them to connect  to  their learning and apply the lessons learned  to their daily lives. They infuse the girls with an enthusiasm for learning that goes beyond the classroom experience through engaging and creative instruction.

Special Programming

There are many creative and  inspirational co-curricular programs planned over the course of the year to translate Torah learning into everyday life.  Monthly Rosh Chodesh programing, a grandmother mother daughter brunch  and  annual middle school Yemei Iyun and Shabbotons are just a few examples of the many programs that contribute to the ruach of growth and simcha shel mitzvah at YBH . The 6th grade girls enjoy a very popular multi-faceted Bas Mitzvah program. The program includes monthly classes taught by Morah Stern, our assistant principal. The classes are designed to help the girls gain a greater understanding of the significance of becoming a Bas Mitzvah and taking pride in being a Bas Yisroel. The girls design a beautiful and creative scrapbook depicting various lessons discussed. The program culminates in a celebratory brunch for mothers and grandmothers of the 6th grade girls, sharing in their daughters’ growth with a musical performance.

MIDDOS

Our student’s middos and character development is of the utmost importance. At each  grade level there are programs included in the curriculum to teach our students appropriate and positive methods of communication through role playing and hands on activities fostering unity and camaraderie amongst the girls. Our voluntary middle school chessed program encourages students to complete a requisite number of chessed hours each year. We are proud that many of our girls exceed the recommended number of hours, demonstrating how they have absorbed  the lessons of giving that YBH has taught. Through the many school wide and grade level programs the girls are inspired to internalize the lessons learned cultivating them into true Bnos Yisroel.

GENERAL STUDIES

We provide a well rounded curriculum that ensures that students acquire the literacy, math and content area skills and knowledge needed to become critical thinkers and autonomous learners. Our elementary school teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the children in their classrooms. They employ a repertoire of strategies in daily instruction to ensure that all learners thrive.  Learning targets are informed by curriculum standards established at each grade level and each child’s progress is monitored through a variety of formal and informal assessments.  Children truly experience their classes as a community of learners who collaborate, share and support each other.

In Middle School, our students delve into Earth Science, Biology and an innovative STEM curriculum in partnership with the Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education. Students also study ancient civilizations and world history and gain additional insights through the lens of the Jewish experience.  Our middle school math curriculum provides multiple course options that deepen student understanding of mathematical operations using increasingly more complex numbers. We prepare our students for high school with pre-algebra and algebra course offerings.  Our literacy classes enable students to explore multiple genres as they expand their vocabulary and comprehension skills.  They develop and refine both oral and written communication skills and expand their ability both read and write about expository text.  The YBH General Studies curriculum encourages resilience, flexibility and  perseverance as we prepare our students for the demands of the 21st century.
