Frequently Asked Questions
Where is our new location?
183 Lafayette Avenue (Bais Medrash L’Torah building or Rabbi Davis’ Shul) Located between Passaic Avenue and Pennington Avenue. view on map
Is the space smaller than the current space?
No. In fact in terms of space dedicated to the Middle School, this location provides more space than they have today. The boys will have full use of renovated classrooms, a dedicated lunch room, Beis Medrash, outdoor play areas and a large gym area.
Why are we moving the middle school boys?
The board has been actively working to identify an additional facility to support the projected long-term growth of our institution with the vision that both as a function of anticipated continued growth and Hashkafic ideals, the boys and girls divisions would be housed in separate permanent facilities. The retention of the additional space is an important and necessary step in fostering a comfortable environment for the large increase in the number of children that we B”H have enrolled in YBH over the recent years, and provides much needed room for continued measured growth. The middle school boys are on a different schedule than the rest of our student body, and the new facility already has a beautiful Beis Medrash, large gym, and other amenities that will facilitate a great atmosphere for learning.
Why now?
B”H, our current location is out of space and we have outgrown our current premises.
Are we buying this building?
No, we have a multi year lease with a right of to extend on the property so we can have the time we need to find a second building.
Is this instead of buying our own building?
No. The board will continue to work to identify an additional facility to support the projected long-term growth of our Yeshiva.
Is there going to be a science lab?
While this building will not have a dedicated lab room, The boys will have access to the same equipment and all the resources needed. The boys will be doing the same science activities.
Does the new building have a gym?
Yes, the former ballroom is being converted into a multi-court gym that includes regulation basketball hoops, with plenty of space dedicated for middle school use.
Are there going to be sponsorship opportunities?
Yes, we are going to be rolling that out in the coming weeks and are looking for everyone’s support as we renovate this space into a state of the art Makom Torah.
Who will supervise the new building?
The location will be staffed full time by one Hanhalla member, office support staff and security staff. Rabbi Schwartz and other Hanhalla members will be on site throughout the day as well.
Will the arrival or dismissal schedule change?
Given that the middle school boys have always had a different arrival and dismissal time than the other divisions, this move is unlikely to change that. We are considering a slight offset of pickup / dropoff timing on joint dismissal days to make the pickup / dropoff process easier.
How will this building be staffed?
We are coordinating our teacher schedules to ensure that we are amply staffed to continue to improve on the quality education you are already used to.
Are we confining our boys to a windowless basement?
Not at all! Like the current building, the primary space is at ground level. Every classroom has large windows with plenty of natural light. We are significantly investing in renovations to make sure the space is comfortable, secure, and conducive to learning
What is the security situation going to be like at the new location, especially considering there is an operating shul at the location as well?
We are working with our security consultants to ensure this building is safe and secure.
As far as the other uses are concerned, the YBH main area is separate from all other uses – accessible to only YBH staff and students. People attending the morning Minyan and Daily Kollel will not have access to the YBH areas.
Will the boys still have access to the optional school provided lunch program?
Yes. The boys will have the same hot-lunch options, served in their own newly renovated lunchroom.
Will there be a lot of traffic going in and out at pickup dropoff?
One of the nice features about this building is the pickup / drop off set up. To avoid traffic backing up Lafayette Ave, parents will enter the driveway on the right of the building, pick up or drop off in the back, and exit on the left side of the building.
Will the classrooms have smart boards?
Yes, all the classrooms are being renovated completely and includes installing the latest technology throughout the building, including SmartBoards in each classroom.
How will I pick up boys in both locations on Sundays? What about days where everyone gets out at the same time?
We are considering a slight offset of pickup / dropoff timing on joint dismissal days to try and make the process easier. We recognize this concern and are working on a solution.
